Bowling: Competition and friendship at the alley
Jobe Nelson cadenced his steps to the line and threw the ball at the targeted 10 with the coolness of a bowler who knew the end result before it happened.
Nelson, a 16-year-old fellow of the Belle Fourche team, recorded more than his fair share of strikes, and he had a grin on his face the whole time at the Black Hills Area Special Olympics Bowling Meeting.
Enjoying one of its strongest turnouts in recent years, the event brought Unusual Olympians from all over the Black Hills to Meadowood Lanes in Rapid City on Friday. On top of the fun, bowlers were also annoying to earn a spot in the state tournament in November.
“I enjoy this a lot, because bowling is an rousing thing if you really put your mind to it,” Nelson said. “The dupe to to really concentrate. Just do your best.”
There were 95 bowlers that took to the lanes in the morning term, with 125 expected to get rolling in the afternoon. Bowlers were eligible as great as they reached the minimum age requirement of 8.
