Amanda Johnstone, who has at best moved back to Melbourne from Monte Carlo to open The Hat Mansion in Prahran, says what Britain's viscountess nuptials did right was set the trend for the elegant pillbox worn by Victoria Beckham, which has emerged as one of the hottest hat shapes for this year's bounce racing season.

Johnstone says the vintage ''pork pie'' plays into the Mad Men-inspired retro upsurge that is seeing hat wearers gravitate towards the demure elegance of the 1950s and '60s.
